Sanctuary at Fraser Villa is a pilot program for Trinity Senior Living Communities (TSLC), a leading national long-term care and senior housing organization.

Sanctuary at Fraser Villa celebrates all of its members, elders and associates alike, by honoring the sacredness of every soul through uncompromising standards and services. The creation of Sanctuary at Fraser Villa began when TSLC embraced the Eden Alternative as the vehicle for living its mission and core values, realizing that today’s typical long-term care facilities do not adequately address the needs of our elders.

Founded in 1991 by Dr. William Thomas, a Harvard-educated physician and board-certified geriatrician, the Eden Alternative is dedicated to eliminating the plagues of long term care-- loneliness, helplessness, and boredom. The Eden Alternative impacts the physical environment, organizational structure, and psycho-social interactions of the community.

Sanctuary at Fraser Villa is a small, constant community of elders and associates, who live, work and grow together. The goal of Sanctuary at Fraser Villa is to create a home – a place of well-being that nourishes the body, mind and spirit.

Daily life in the Sanctuary at Fraser Villa revolves around the normalcy of every day living. Cooking, eating, cleaning, relaxing, socializing, planning and resting are all potentially in the order of the day. Inherent in Sanctuary at Fraser Villa is the recognition of the importance of personal growth, purpose and meaning in the life of every person within the community. Sanctuary at Fraser Villa honors the sacredness of every individual Elder as well as the holiness of the work and the strong and tender hearts of those that provide the care.

From family-style dining to a hearth room where elders and families can gather, Sanctuary at Fraser Villa has changed the face of long-term care. But, this is just the beginning. Rooms built for four residents with minimal living space have transformed into large semi-private or private rooms including a divided wall for privacy. A spa-style bathroom with towel warmers, not to mention a large gourmet kitchen are just a few of the enhancements made. However, nothing can compare to the feeling you experience when walking through the Sanctuary at Fraser Villa. While all of the fancy decorations are nice, there is nothing like coming home and having that feeling of peace, safety and love.

The cornerstone of Sanctuary at Fraser Villa is the close and consistent relationship that exists between the elder and the permanently assigned, uniquely trained associate, the Anam Cara. The Anam Cara is an advocate, friend, companion, and personal assistant to the elders within the Sanctuary at Fraser Villa. Through this relationship-rich environment, the safety and security of home develops, filled with the thick trust and love often known only within families.
